ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE NATIONAL INTER-UNIVERSITY ACCESS TO JUSTICE, DISCRIMINATION AND EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES MOOT COURT COMPETITION 2026

by Pius Egip

The Equal Opportunities Commission (EOC), in collaboration with the International Development Law Organization (IDLO), is organizing the National Inter-University Access to Justice, Discrimination and Equal Opportunities Moot Court Competition 2026.

The competition is aimed at promoting a deeper understanding of access to justice, equality, non-discrimination and equal opportunities among law students, while nurturing their legal research, advocacy, analytical and legal drafting skills in these critical areas of law.

The Commission therefore invites all accredited universities and law schools in Uganda to participate in the competition.

Participating teams will be required to prepare and submit written memorials for both the Applicant and the Respondent, in accordance with the instructions contained in the attached Moot Problem and Competition Guidelines and Rules.

The competition shall be conducted in two stages:

  • Preliminary Rounds: Wednesday, 23 September 2026 – venue to be communicated.
  • Semi-Final and Final Rounds: Thursday, 24 September 2026 – venue to be communicated.

The competition will provide an excellent platform for law students to engage with contemporary issues relating to access to justice, discrimination, equality and equal opportunities, interact with experienced legal practitioners and adjudicators, and demonstrate their legal research and advocacy skills.

The Commission encourages all accredited law schools to take advantage of this opportunity to expose their students to practical legal advocacy while contributing to the advancement of equality, non-discrimination and access to justice in Uganda.

Interested institutions are invited to confirm their participation and obtain further information regarding registration, submission of memorials, team composition and other requirements through the Moot Coordinator.

For further information and confirmation of participation, please contact the moot coordinator by email on nasser.abdul@eoc.go.ug.
